Candidate Running for Lower Macungie Township Commissioner. Transparent, reasoned, and thoughtful leadership for our thriving community.
Stefanie Rafes is a Lehigh Valley native, raised in Whitehall. From an early age, she knew her adult life would focus on public service. During her junior year of high school, she discovered a career path well suited to her love of science and her desire to help others: becoming a Physician Assistant. In 1999, she entered the PA program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in 2003. Throughout her career, she has had the privilege to evaluate and treat patients of all ages, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, with varying degrees of illness. Through speaking with and treating tens of thousands of patients over the last 20 years, she has become highly attuned to the struggles of everyday Americans, especially here in the Lehigh Valley.
Over the years, Stefanie has taken on leadership roles helping train a new generation of healthcare providers. She mentors and precepts pre-PA and PA students, advising them on prerequisites, applications, and the day-to-day realities of patient care. As the Lehigh Valley’s population grows and changes, Stefanie believes it’s essential to attract and support dedicated healthcare professionals who help keep our communities strong and healthy.
In early 2023, Stefanie became active in local community initiatives. Motivated by a desire to protect and enhance quality public education in Lehigh County, she began supporting school board candidates in her home district of East Penn. She found a passion for community organizing, speaking with residents who share common goals: robust public schools, inclusivity, well-supported teachers, responsible use of tax dollars, and an environment that enables children to thrive.
Stefanie was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2015, at the age of 33. Although daunting and terrifying, this experience was transformative. She learned the incredible strength and resilience of the human spirit through her own journey and the stories of fellow survivors. Going through this challenge deepened her appreciation for family, friends, and community. It also strengthened her love of nature and the outdoors, and she advocates for the protection of the rivers, lakes, mountains, forests, and open spaces that make the Lehigh Valley and Pennsylvania beautiful.
Now, as a candidate for Lower Macungie Commissioner in 2025, Stefanie brings her healthcare experience, community leadership, and passion for service to local government. She is committed to transparent, thoughtful decision-making that reflects the priorities of residents—focusing on responsible growth, strong local services, and preserving the character that makes Lower Macungie a great place to call home.
